These are only a few important points from my Holiday checklist to secure your home when on vacation.
*If you have anything delivered to the house ensure you put a hold on it until you return.
*Ensure that your alarm company has up-to-date key holder details. ( Trusted neighbor or family member that checks on your home regularly) Has the alarm been serviced?
*Turn off the gas and water supply especially if away for a longer period of time. Check your washing machine hoses if it hasn’t been replaced in a long time you might want to replace them…
*Have you indoor and outdoor lighting on time switches. This might be a deterrent for thieves if the house appears to be occupied with different lights on at different times.
*Keep all garden tools locked up as they can be used to break a window etc…
*Keep Documents, valuables including Wills in the safe.
*Unplug all your electrical devices that don’t need to be on.
*Ensure that every window and door is property secured and ask your trusted neighbor to keep an eye on the property and give them your travel details and how you can best be contacted.
*Last but not least do not post on social media that you are away on vacation. Thieves are continuously surfing on social media for clues that people are way and that is an invitation for them to access people’s homes. Instead enjoy your vacation take lots of photos and video and then post and share with your friends once you return home.
